M7 Pujang Nanpu Station
Shanghai CN
Integrated development plan
At the intersection of an existing metro line with a new metro line, a stone’s throw away from the future world exhibition site, a new transportation hub has been created. The redevelopment of the new tube station and the surrounding suburb is the subject of a conceptual design competition which KuiperCompagnons, in collaboration with DHV Shanghai have elaborated in two phases.
Research was undertaken to establish how a specially designed public space (‘vertical landscaping’), continuous pedestrian areas (‘pedestrian malls’), and an exclusive housing landscape (‘landmark living’) above the planned commercial and retail functions, could provide a contribution in the transformation of the area into a lively urban district. The design for the development of the surroundings of M7 Puiang Nanpu Station demonstrates how a high density urban development can correspond well with housing comfort, an urban ecology, and sustainable metropolitan water management.
